April Showers
April this year decided it wanted to start off strong. And when I say strong, I mean mother nature came arrived ready to fight. Temperatures hovering just above, wind strong enough to make me stumble on my feet, enough rainfall to emphasize the “shower” in rain showers, and clouds obscuring every single bit of color in the sky with grey. To contrast, the end of March gave us a few days with sunny skies, daily highs in the seventies, light breezes, and overall the kind of weather that make Erie a popular second home for the Florida snowbirds. That whiplash hit me hard. “FOOL’S SPRING,” I moaned and groaned about, shaking my fist at the sky. With weather like this, I’m not going to have the mood to go out and take photos because I know I will only be capturing skies that only a True Scotsman would be nostalgic about.
Every hour that passed over the first few days of April, I would quickly glance at my favorite weather app, carrot, to see if I might get any hope that the weather would once again do a full 180 degree turn. It would usually look like this:
In spite of the doom and gloom that I was feeling, the ever optimist in me latched onto the phrase “April Showers Bring May Flowers.”
