Landscape photography is the genre most against my own nature, and for that I love it!

Photographing landscapes

Against all expectations, I am a very impatient person. Landscape photography, ironically, forces me to be more patient than any other genre. Waiting for the clouds, waiting for the right season, and waiting for the sun to be at a specific point in the sky are just a few things that make me antsy, forcing me to slow down to get out and create what I want to see. I didn’t realize that getting into landscape photography would look like getting a bachelor’s degree in meteorology; I check my weather app daily and have slowly become a savant at predicting Erie’s usually bipolar weather. Of course, waiting for the right conditions is only part of the story in my battle with forced patience. Landscape photography is unique as a genre where the subject isn’t always obvious. I love the idea in landscape photography that when you go somewhere, the place may present itself as beautiful, but you still may have no clue how to capture that beauty in a frame. And oftentimes, I have an idea of what my subject should be, but I need to spend countless hours refining a single image.
